How to Make Your Makeup Pop!

by Danielle

Ever do your face for an evening out with the girls thinking your makeup looks fab then when the pics show up on Facebook, it looks like you’re not wearing any makeup at all? That’s because makeup needs to be layered correctly for it to last and look vibrant (but not clownish) in pics.
Here’s how:
Eyes: You need a good eyeshadow base to make your shadow pop and last. I love Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream or MAC Paint in a color that closely matches your skin tone for neutral looks. For looks that involve vivid shades of color, choose a base that closely matches your eyeshadow color to really make the color pop, i.e. use a teal base under a teal eyeshadow and watch how the color really comes to life

Foundation: A great foundation base will help to fill in any pores and smooth out the skin so that your foundation performs at maximum effort. One to try is Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer or to combat oil try Iman Cosmetics Under Cover Agent Oil Control Primer. Apply foundation primer after you’ve cleansed and moisturized your skin and before you apply foundation.
Blush: One of the most over-looked and feared makeup products, blush is actually one of the most-needed products. You can instantly brighten up your complexion and appear to be glowing with the right blush (see How to Find and Apply Your Perfect Blush Shade for recommendations). To make your blush really pop and stay-put, first apply a creme blush like NARS Cream Blush on your cheekbones then lightly layer a powder blush like NARS Blush.
NARS powder blushes are pigmented enough to stand out on their own, but if you want an extra kick, definitely try the trick above.

Lips: To make your lip color last, first start with a lip base (you don’t have to get very fancy, something like Chapstick works well). Then use a lip pencil in a color similar to your natural lip color or in a color close to your lipstick or gloss for maximum color pop (try Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Pencil) to line and color the lips (hold the pencil parallel to your lips). Apply your lip color and then top with a clear gloss.
