How to Make Your Makeup Pop!

by Danielle

Ever do your face for an evening out with the girls thinking your makeup looks fab then when the pics show up on Facebook, it looks like you’re not wearing any makeup at all? That’s because makeup needs to be layered correctly for it to last and look vibrant (but not clownish) in pics.
Here’s how:
Eyes: You need a good eyeshadow base to make your shadow pop and last. I love Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream or MAC Paint in a color that closely matches your skin tone for neutral looks. For looks that involve vivid shades of color, choose a base that closely matches your eyeshadow color to really make the color pop, i.e. use a teal base under a teal eyeshadow and watch how the color really comes to life

Foundation: A great foundation base will help to fill in any pores and smooth out the skin so that your foundation performs at maximum effort. One to try is Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer or to combat oil try Iman Cosmetics Under Cover Agent Oil Control Primer. Apply foundation primer after you’ve cleansed and moisturized your skin and before you apply foundation.
Blush: One of the most over-looked and feared makeup products, blush is actually one of the most-needed products. You can instantly brighten up your complexion and appear to be glowing with the right blush (see How to Find and Apply Your Perfect Blush Shade for recommendations). To make your blush really pop and stay-put, first apply a creme blush like NARS Cream Blush on your cheekbones then lightly layer a powder blush like NARS Blush.
NARS powder blushes are pigmented enough to stand out on their own, but if you want an extra kick, definitely try the trick above.

Lips: To make your lip color last, first start with a lip base (you don’t have to get very fancy, something like Chapstick works well). Then use a lip pencil in a color similar to your natural lip color or in a color close to your lipstick or gloss for maximum color pop (try Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Pencil) to line and color the lips (hold the pencil parallel to your lips). Apply your lip color and then top with a clear gloss.

Celebrity Stylist June Amberose

It's nearly impossible to have a discussion about the relationship between music and style without mentioning one of the mavericks of celebrity styling, June Ambrose. Ambrose, as we're sure many of you already know, is an iconic stylist who has been instrumental in creating the looks of some of the music world's biggest stars like Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, P. Diddy and Jay-Z. It was the ingenious Ambrose that came up with the idea of putting then-new artist Missy Elliot in a blown up garbage bag in the video for "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)." That's just one of the many looks she created for her clients that will forever be etched into music video history.

You would think assisting celebrities in developing their image, dressing them for every occasion from press conferences to world tours, giving out style tips on her numerous TV appearances and running Mod Squad, her successful branding firm, wouldn't allow any time for the premier stylist, and mother of two, to devote to her own personal style. Nevertheless, for a fashion addict and clotheshorse like Ambrose, taking pride in how she presents herself is as important to her as making sure her clients' sartorial needs are met. In fact, her personal style has garnered her as much attention as her impressive resume.

Getting first dibs on designer collections and new trends for clients keeps Ambrose's own personal closet full of stand-out pieces. Firmly rooted in the classics like wide-legged trousers, pencil skirts, silk shirts, black turtlenecks, sheaths, LBDs and fur, Ambrose's lust-worthy wardrobe includes designs by YSL, Chanel, Hermes, Diane von Furstenberg and Chloe. Being one of the architects of pop-culture style and imaging, Ambrose is privy to a slew of trends, but her studied approach to fashion keeps her from jumping on everything that she comes across through her work. Her fashion choices are not driven by what's in but rather what fits her mood and personality. She has a good grasp on what she likes to wear, what looks good on her and how to inject trends into her superbly curated closet without coming off like a fashion victim.

Her high-wattage ensembles are kept fresh by layering sophisticated separates, paying attention to texture, choosing pieces in interesting shapes and always using lots of accessories to smartly elevate any outfit. Big sunglasses, beanies, statement necklaces, embellished belts, killer platform shoes and her signature Birkin bag are Ambrose's go-to accessories to complete her confident looks.

Despite her bevy of high-end pieces, we love that Ambrose doesn't turn her nose up at affordable mass market stores like Gap, JC Penney, and Target, where she can be found shopping (tweeting) about recent cheap and chic finds that will bring much personal flair to her high looks.

We've been intrigued with Ambrose's style repertoire for years. Judging from what we've seen, it's a safe bet that Ambrose's closet is fire.

Chrisette has been looking amazing. She’s currently working with celeb stylist June Ambrose who has done a really good job of evolving her style without “doing too much”.

Do Women Lose Their Power Once They Give Up The Goods?

The power struggle between men and women is one that is ongoing and never-ending. Both genders come into dating with their own agendas, and this is where the miscommunication starts. Agendas may shift if the individuals involved become enamored with one another. But, from their first interaction, there is always a plan of action.
The plan of action is to achieve power over the other person and get them to lean towards their goal. Some have no intentions on abusing the power. They only want their fair share and are willing to share. Others come into the game knowing what they want from the other person and are willing to manipulate to achieve their final goal; even if it means hurting the other person.
The power shift between men and women goes as follows: In the beginning the woman is the one with the power and the man willingly gives it to her. Why? Because she has something he wants. He wants to have sex with her. His plan may shift later after he gets to know her. Then he may want to have a committed relationship.  But, initially, his primary goal was to stringently pursue his plan of action: The panties. On the contrary, women go into their dealings with men with their own set of priorities. In order of hierarchy, her plan of action goes as follows: She wants his love, affection, loyalty, and sex. Notice the priority difference? Meanwhile, he is not the least bit alarmed by her having the power. In fact, he prefers it, because the power that she has is what is going to make her comfortable. This temporary power she feels is what is going to cause her to let her guard down and let the man pursuing her in. You can take that in more than one, by the way.
Eventually, the woman gives in to the desires of the man. By this point, she may also have the same strong desires, but she never once loses sight of her original plan of action. She still wants a relationship with him but she loses all of her good damn sense and makes his plan a priority over hers. So, she gives up her honey pot and hopes for the best. Now, there could be two outcomes from this. One is that their intimacy could lead the man to become more attached to the woman. That is if he already had a foundation of emotion toward her. He had to already be into her to some extent for this to happen. The second and less desirable outcome by women is that the man chunks the deuces at her.
Show of hands if you have experienced the following scenario at least once in your life, ladies:You are dating a guy, and he is perfect. He does everything for you; seems so attentive and nice. The moment you give him the honey pot his personality and demeanor toward you changes. That is because there has been a power shift.  Women can literally feel the power being drained from them the moment the man climaxes.  Suddenly, he is in his he-man stance.  He becomes less attentive and less friendly. He never wants to go out of his way for you; when before making you happy was his pleasure.  He might not want to spend as much time with you or make you a priority. That is because he realizes he now possesses the power; he has conquered you sexually. And, if he is a jerk, who only wanted that to begin with, then as a result, he will become less interested in you.
Meanwhile, the woman suddenly feels bamboozled. “What happen?  Why is he acting this way?” The moment her goal and needs were placed second to his, she gave him her power. Deep down she knows this and so does he. This is why he now can behave like a jack ass with less fear. You have been conquered. The woman may then feel a range of emotions from anger, to feeling played to emotional abandonment.
Sex is more than just an act for some women. For some women, every instance of sex is always an emotional experience to be cherished. The idea that this man is now showing his true colors becomes too much for them to handle; even if the circumstance never called for her to become emotional about the sex or the man never gave signs that he was going to be emotionally available to her.
The moral of this story, ladies, is never to give up that juicy spot until you feel that you are getting what you truly desire from the guy. If it is a committed relationship you desire from him, don’t have sex until you feel secure enough to do so. This way you will not feel emotionally trumped. Also, if you know that you are not one of those chicks who can separate having commitment-free sex from having a deep-rooted emotional bond with a man, don’t have sex until you feel you have that.
Fellas, if you have absolutely no intentions of being monogamous with the woman and know that you are only in it for the panties, be direct about your needs. Not all women want to be in a relationship with you. Some want what’s between your legs just as bad as you want what’s between theirs.  Approaching women with honesty about your intentions could be what prevents your tires from being slashed or car windows busted out because you two had a sexual miscommunication.

Leopard and Cheetah Print for Fall/Winter 2010

Leopard and cheetah prints are spot on for fall as designers splash the pattern on everything from chic coats to quirky accessories.

Rule of thumb...choose one area to focus on. A splash here and there...too much animal print can be over kill.

What to Wear Under Your Clothes to Look Your Best

by Danielle

Just as foundation is the base of your makeup look, your undergarments are the foundation to your outfit. Wear the wrong undergarments and you can take the hottest of outfits down into a cold, blizzard-like spiral.
So what do you wear under there?
Check out these tips:

1. White Blouse/Pants: There’s a misconception out there that white underwear should be worn with white, but if you’ve ever tried this practice you’ll know that your underthings still shine through. So what’s the fix? Nudes! Nude is a relative term as it applies to a color that closely matches your own skin tone. Thankfully companies like My Skins make it easier to find your nude. My Skin Lingerie comes in 20 different skin-matching hues.

2. Tank or Tight Top. Muffin top and back fat plague even the best of us. While you should continue to do your cardio and crunches, you can also get a sleek, pulled together look with the help of Yummie Tummie. Yummie Tummie is a modern body contouring shaper. Your Yummie Tummie is meant to be seen while secretly slimming your mid-section and camouflaging visible lumps and bumps! Unlike most shapewear that compress your bust and roll up, the Yummie Tummies’ cotton bust and hip panels appear to the outsider as a normal tank top; meanwhile the secret midsection panel is smoothing and shaping your middle, eliminating approximately five pounds off your appearance.

Also check out Shapeez’ The Ultimate. This innovative Undergarment is more than a bra, it’s a solution! This amazingly comfortable, all in one garment supports and shapes your breasts, slims the torso, and seamlessly removes all visible bra lines and back bulges with their patent pending “SMOOTH BACK” design.
3. Plunging Neckline. Because not everyone can channel Keri Hilson and have their bra play peek-a-boo, you’ll need a U-Plunge bra for those plunging necklines.

4. Asymmetrical, Halter, Low-Back, etc. With all the different silhouettes that are hot right now, you’ll need a bra that can handle all these looks. Check out Victoria’s Secret BioFit 7-Way Bra. You can wear it strapless, one strap, halter, classic, v-front, cross-front or crossback.

5. Dresses, Pencil Skirts, and more. If you want to look trim in your favorite pencil skirt or dress, grab the tried and true favorite Spanx!

6. T-Shirt Bras. Need a bra that can hold up the girls, but doesn’t show through your t-shirts? Check out Body by Victoria Ipex Demi Bra.

Victoria's Secret at ShopStyle

7. Hide Those Panties. Hate the idea of VPL (visible panty lines) but can do without a thong? Try No-Show Panties.

8. Help for the Girls. Say you’re a plus-sized hottie tired of the dark marks that bras leave on your shoulders and that really don’t support the girls like they should. Try the Butterfly Bra at Ashley Stewart. With double back wrap back panels and graduated push-up gel pads, the Butterfly Bra offers comfort and support for your back, bust, and shoulders. It also eliminates back fat and bulges for a smoother look.
If you’re a C-cup or smaller and can use a bit of a push-up or added “oomph”

9. Junk in the Trunk. We’re not all built stacked, so if you want a little push back there try Booty Pop.
That’s our list. What’s your favorite undergarments and shapewear?

Individual Lashes Information!

Remember that abuse of individuals can lead to tearing your natural lashes. Use precaution!

Maintenance Sheet Created By: Lashville Lashes

Before coming to your lash appointment:
ü        Make sure you wash your face with warm soap and water especially around the eye area.  If you’ve previously worn tones of mascara or eyeliner, make sure you use oil-free eye-makeup remover then thoroughly cleanse.
ü        Do not wash your face 24 hours after lash application.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Q: How long will my individual flare eyelashes last?
A:   The length of time depends strictly on how you take care of them. Please read the do’s & don’ts below. There is no definite timing on how long the individual eyelashes last, they can shed at any given time.  It also depends on how you maintain them. The way you sleep, oil secretion from your eyelids, & oil based eye-makeup products/ remover are other factors. Lashes may last 1 to 6 weeks or more requiring a fill-in at any given time. Each person results may vary. Remember, this is a semi-permanent service  meaning your artificial lashes won’t last forever…… PLEASE USE COMMON JUDGEMENT!!!!!!!!!!
((If You should lose 1 or 3 lashes within the 1st 4 days, apply black liner on top of your eyelids to camouflage the gaps if you're out of town for some reason.))
Q:  Will the individual eyelashes tear out my own lashes?
A:   You have the option to have your lashes applied with the soft glue which doesn’t pull out "as much" of your own lashes or the regular individual eyelash glue which is the hard
glue that may pull out the majority of your own hair during the removal process plus when they shed.  The soft glue can last as long as the regular, hard single-lash
glue if you stay away from hot steam.  The soft glue may possibly last 1 to 4 weeks or more depending on how you take care of them.  You may loose some of your own natural lashes with the regular, hard individual eyelash glue when the lashes shed and also during the removal process.
PLEASE REQUEST SOFT GLUE BEFORE APPLICATION IF YOU CHOOSE THIS OPTION…
Q: My lashes got wet and steamy where the soft glue is visible & clumpy, how do I hide the appearance of the glue on my lashes?
A: Simply, apply black liquid eyeliner on the area of the adhesive that's visibly clumpy.  Use the liquid eyeliner as if it's a paint brush to completely cover the grayish looking glue
Q:  How do I remove the individual eyelashes?
A:  A steamy hot towel, eyelash adhesive remover, and Q-tips (if you choose to have your lashes done with the regular hard eyelash glue).  This process may take 15- 30-60
minutes.  If you have your lashes applied with the soft glue, there’s no need to use the glue remover - just place a steamy hot towel against your eyes and they will immediately come off after 2 or 3 uses of the steam from the hot towel.  The removal of the soft glue application doesn’t take long at all & the best part about it, you won’t pull out your own lashes.
NEVER USE BABY OIL, SOAP, OR GREASE TO REMOVE YOUR FALSE EYELASHES when the hard glue is used for application.  Only use eyelash glue remover when the hard glue is used.
Click on the "Lash Glue" link for more details as to which glue you would prefer.
Q: What is the difference between individual flare eyelashes, individual single lashes, strip lashes, & eyelash extenstions? Please follow the illustration(s) below . . .
A.  B.  C. D.
(A) Individual flare lashes has approximately 6 - 10 strands to a bud of the lash and gives a much fuller appearance whereas the individual single lashes are just one strand to a bud.

(B) The single lashes look similar to wearing eyelash extensions except there are about 2 lashes on the bud -"base" where the strands of fiber is thicker & it gives a fuller look to the eyes than the eyelash extensions.

(C) Strip lashes are connected to a whole band of lashes and don't last as long as the individuals because of the application procedure.
Applying the band to the eyelids is the only way of application and your eyelids secrete alot of oil.  Remember, the band is touching your lid and your lid secrete sebum from your sebaceous glands.  Sebum is an oily secretion of the sebaceous gland which helps to preserve the flexibility of the hair of your real lashes

Wearing eyeliner on your top eyelid as well as bottom is preferred when wearing strips to make them look authentic. The strips are worn preferably for special occasions only because they may last 1 to 3 days.  The strip lashes should preferably be remove nightly because the adhesive on your skin may irritate your eyes if they’re sensitive.

D) Eyelash extensions are very tiny synthetic fibers identical to your own lashes.  These lashes are applied hair to hair using a medical grade surgical glue.  These lashes tend to shed with the life cycle of your own individual single lashes.  These lashes are applied one-by-one connecting to your one single lash alone.

Individual lash glue & surgical glue are to be applied hair to hair where as the strip lash glue is to be applied to the skin.
(((If you are allergic to latex, do not request the soft glue )))

Q: I have sensitive skin & allergies, can I wear false eyelashes?
A:  Yes you can wear lashes.  If you experience any discomfort use allergy drops if necessary.  Only you know what you can bear, use common judgment.

Note: If your eyes are sensitive & you wear contact lenses, be sure to bring your solution and contact lens case before application if you're extremely sensitive around the eye area.

Q:  I wear contact lens, can I wear individual false eyelashes?
A:   Yes, anyone can wear individual false eyelashes because they are placed on your natural lashes & not on the skin of your eyelid.

Do’s & Don’ts
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Don’ts
ü        Do not sleep facing the pillow.  The pillow will separate the lashes causing them to bend upward & downward.
ü        When taking a shower, be sure not to let water get in your face & make sure the water isn’t steamy hot.
ü        Do not use mascara on your new lashes as this will cause the lashes to clump.
ü        When applying eyeliner or eyeshadow, DO NOT stretch the eye area.  Stretching the eyes will separate your lashes.

Do’s
ü        Sleep on your back or with a large pair of shades or glasses as this will cause your lashes not to separate or bend while sleeping.
ü        When washing your face, wipe under and over the eye area carefully.  Use oil-free eye makeup remover with a Q-tip if you wear eye cosmetics
ü        Sleeping with glasses or shades will cause your lashes to last a lot longer than expected due to your face not touching the pillow.  If this isn’t for you, do not try this at home…
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Note:
The individual eyelash adhesive sometime causes your eyelids to itch due to dust and lent particles in the air.  If this should happen to your, make sure you gently rub the eye area to scratch or use a wet Q-tip to remove the invisible lent particles from underneath your eyelid.

If you’re a client who doesn’t frequently visit the hair salon for services, you may need to take extra precautions when washing your hair at home.  This is the chance you take while trying to maintain your lashes and not get them wet.  It is preferably a good idea to visit the salon for hair services.

LASH REMOVAL PROCEDURE WHEN SOFT GLUE IS USED:

When removing lashes, use a steamy hot towel.  Lash Adhesive Remover is not needed when the soft glue is used.  Simply wet your face towel and squeeze.  Place the wet face towel into the microwave for about 1 1/2 minute.  If towel is too hot, shake some of the steam out and apply the steamy hot towel underneath your eyes with your eyes closed.  You may steam your eyes 1 to 4 times, and the steam will separate the lashes from you own natural lashes.
You will still have your own natural lashes after removal when choosing the soft glue.

LASH REMOVAL PROCEDURE WHEN HARD GLUE IS USED:

When removing lashes, make sure you use eyelash glue remover a steamy hot towel.   Make sure your eyes are closed tightly because the remover will burn your eyes.  Put the wet face towel in the microwave for 1 ½ minute.  Shake the steam from the towel one time and place the towel under your eyes then dip the Q-Tip in the adhesive remover.  Use the Q-tip like you’re applying mascara.  Repeat steam & glue remover steps until lashes are removed completely.

Why Do Men Cheat On The Perfect Girl?

by Dr. J on Friday November 19th 2010

Written by Dr J
There’s an old saying that goes something like this, ”Find me the perfect girl and I’ll show the man that’s tired of [sexing] her,”  and boy is it one of the truest statements I’ve ever heard.  When you think about the recent barrage of celebrity divorces it makes you wonder.  I mean, we are still scratching our heads about Halle and Eric, but haven’t we seen enough to let us know that men just continue to cheat on the “perfect” girl.
Although I’m not sure, I came up with a list of reasons why I think this happens.  I can say that every woman I’ve ever dated I thought was perfect at the time, but I didn’t think she was the absolute end all of the female gender.  However, here’s some reasons why men cheat on the “perfect” ones…
Some men are constantly enabled in their environment. For example, athletes.  Someone asked me how Tony Parker could cheat on the beautiful Eva Longoria, and I had no problems in answering that question.  I go out a lot and I hang out in the same places as the Wizards, Redskins, and even the Capitals … groupies are invested in their looks and they LOOK GOOD. And all these good looking women are constantly in a baller’s face trying to give it up, regardless of the fact that he has a wife.  His wife may be beautiful, but there’s plenty of dimes in the club.
Never discount that a man has his own issues and demons. There are some men with destructive tendencies.  If you know your man well enough, you probably know that.  I know that some women won’t let their men go 45-60 minutes without calling or texting because they know he has issues with focus.  And there are guys who are in fact addicted to sex; or even a bad drug habit can lead to risky behavior against their loved ones.
Keep in mind that “perfect” is relative. My definition of perfect is completely different than the next man’s.  And when we say perfect, especially when we talk about celebrities, we’re usually thinking about looks and the characters they play on TV.  We don’t know who they are in real life and behind closed doors.  I know myself, my perfect girl doesn’t have to be the most beautiful woman in the world, but she needs to fit with my twisted personality.  I think that when I say perfect it speaks more to that person’s compatibility to another.  Keep it real, what’s wrong with Jennifer Aniston?  She seems perfect, but yet she’s always getting her heart broken.  Maybe we don’t know Jennifer as well as we think we do.
To follow up on that, a man has to find the woman that’s perfect for him. Going back to talking about compatibility, maybe it’s not such a good idea for two people who are busy professionals to be together because they won’t have time for each other.  Maybe the guy is truly a momma’s boy and needs to be coddled; that guy is not going to work well with an independent woman. She simply won’t want to take care of him.
Truth be told, I don’t think the reason men cheat on the “perfect” girl is because she’s not perfect, I think it’s because he hasn’t decided himself that he wants to be the perfect man, or at least try and be that way.  If a man is going to be a dirtbag, it doesn’t matter who he’s with, he’s never going to stop being a dirtbag.  If a man is striving for greatness and wants to give it 100 percent, then he won’t cheat.  It has nothing to do with how perfect or imperfect she is.  A man who doesn’t want to cheat loves his woman imperfections and all.

5 Makeup Faux Pas to Avoid!

by Danielle on Monday November 8th 2010

We’re not all born with makeup brushes in our hands. Luckily these five tips will keep us from committing a terrible makeup mistake. Check it out:

1. Under-eye Concealer: Be sure to blend in concealer thoroughly or run the risk of raccoon eyes. Also avoid Gabby’s faux pas above and make sure your concealer is no more than one shade lighter than your foundation especially if your photo is being taken. Once the camera hits it, it’ll appear even lighter than it actually is.

2. Blush Overload: While I’m happy whenever a woman isn’t afraid to use blush, I cringe when it’s overused. Blush helps to bring out the cheekbones and add warmth and color to the skin, but overdo it and it can look clown-ish. We’re human so if you OD’d on the blush, grab a powder brush dipped in face powder and go over your mistake. This will help tone down the blush and give you more of a “lit from within” look.

3. Cakey Foundation: A little goes a long way with foundation, so start with a sheer application and build it up if needed. Set with powder and for added protection against cakey face, spritz on a makeup spray like MAC Fix+.
4. Clumpy Mascara: Clumpy mascara is slowly becoming a thing of the past thanks to innovations in how mascaras are made. But to safeguard yourself from it, wipe off any excess mascara from the wand before applying it to your lashes. Work the wand from lash root to tip in a quick zig-zag motion. If you wish to add a second coat, do so before the first coat dries. You can also use a clean mascara wand to comb through the lashes and remove any excess.

Honorable mention: Bad false lashes. While fake lashes can add to a makeup look, some of the super obvious ones just look like broom bristles. You can wear dramatic lashes, just make sure they’re in scale with your eyes (i.e. the smaller your eyes, the smaller the lash) and cut them to fit your eyes properly. Makeup is necessary when wearing lashes as well.

5. Overdrawn Eyebrows: Your brows are probably the most important part of your look. They frame your face and can make or break any eye makeup look. Try and have them groomed by a professional at least once a month while keeping them trim with a pair of tweezers. If you must fill them in, do so with a brow pencil that’s slightly lighter than your hair color. Fill them in using light, dainty feathery strokes. Set with brow powder or gel.
Though we listed just five, there are tons of makeup faux paus. Which ones would you add to our list?

Rihanna brought glamour to the American Music Awards carpet. The singer was decked out in a sheer Elie Saab gown and toned down the bright hair she's been sporting recently. Rihanna opened the show with a medley from her new album, Loud, which came out last week. Rih smiled big on her way in, but what do you think about her look?

LACE is everywhere....

A trend round-up to inspire you for late-Summer 2010, but also a trend that you'd be amiss not to carry in to Autumn / Fall 2010 / 2011: lace dresses and lace skirts.
Right now you're thinking that this is nothing new. And you're right; it's an extension of the sheer trend that's has, for some time, firmly cemented itself as its own, independent trend. So what follows is, instead, more about how to wear the trend now, and how to set yourself apart from the masses - so that you can bring it forwards and into a new league.

How to wear it

The ultimate balance of lace in 2010 / 2011 is to be romantic but not over-girly; sensual but not over-suggestive. Like taking beautifully crafted lace that would have once been part of a garment and making it the only layer. The lace isn't an added detail of a garment, it is the garment. And thus we come to lace skirts and lace dresses. Dare to wear them without a slip underneath. Just keep the cut a little more relaxed or the hem a little longer to maintain that aforementioned balance.
